Multimedia is a term that we are all familiar with and we just accept that we know what it actually is. However there is a lot more to it than meets the eye and it is actually used in a lot more locations than you would first imagine.
Most people are familiar with the term thanks to the internet with music or films being displayed on multimedia players. However, things such as text, animation and anything involving interactivity can also fall under this category.
So in essence almost everything that you do on the internet is a form of media so you are surrounded by it. Your television screen, your radio, your music player, or even your cinema screen are all also formats with which media can be portrayed to you.
It can be used for both live and recorded media as there is no difference between the two as it is how it is shown to you that is the key part of the term. It is also used in so many different areas that it crops up in medicine, business, and engineering as well as obviously entertainment.
In business if you are looking at a slideshow as part of a presentation then it is a form of media. In medicine doctors are being trained to do virtual operations and again this is using a form of multimedia so in this case it really can have life changing results.
It has come on a huge amount in recent years as technology becomes more advanced to a point where it is now just accepted in society. By bringing together the various formats of media into one single form it is capable of providing you with the maximum amount of information that you can hope to absorb but done so in a way that your brain is actually able to handle it and process everything.
